More gym stuff.
Single strand 1/2 inch webbing, carabiner with gate down, and 7mm cord.
More 7mm, not really tied around the tree, just fed through a loop in the end.

Dangerous? No. Smart? No.
The left leg is a loop, so he could have used a knot instead of adding two points of failure. Is the loop safer? No, if one strand fails, the anchor fails.

New Year's Day, 54 degrees.
Of course the tiny stopper is vital.
Eight feet up the tree and across the trail.
Fifty feet of rope but they used slings and carabiners.
Why use the big tree when you have a loose rock?
