Nylon on nylon

Nice rope and knots, but friction can cut through that nylon webbing

  1. I agree that this is bad form, but where is the friction coming from? There's no way slippage will occur in this setup, and thus no friction. Maybe at the sketchy girth hitch, which is the weakest point here (I'm surprised you call this a nice knot)? But certainly not between the rope and webbing.

  2. My thoughts exactly. Bad form and the girth hitch instead of a basket hitch doesn't make sense. Then you could tie an over hand to make it redundant. Not so though with a girth hitch. Heck there is enough webbing there for a wrap 3 pull 2. And yeah, I'm not really seeing a problem here with friction. Interesting that the poster thinks friction is the problem but states "nice ropes and knots". I guess he technically didn't state nice hitches but it makes you wonder.
