Sometimes old school isn't the answer.

The only way to absolutely damage a tree, run the rope directly around the tree, abrading the bark. Haven't seen this in at least a decade.

The knot is grinding up against the rock every time the rope is weighted.

Put the knot high in the tree so it gets pulled out by the roots.

If you aren't REALLY sure about your backup knot, use a carabiner to anchor the tail.

This was the primary anchor, the ripe was vibrating with every move.

There are lots of good anchors near this climb. Choosing points at a 90 degree angle weakens the system.
