Totally cross loaded

  1. 'Tis called a tensionless hitch, so there shouldn't really be any load on the biner... never worked out when you'd actually need one though!

  2. Use this all the time. Three wraps of the rope are generally enough, but you can do more for a comfort buffer. Never put pressure on the tail if done right. I'd face the biner the other way, though. Or just tie a bight to replace the biner.

  3. Sure it is tensionless, but it is sloppy, may actually interfere with the hitch, and introduces another link in the chain. Simplicity is the key.
