No, these are the guys sieging Silver Spot, taking a day off to trash their tips on The Flake, so not finishing climbs. The clove hitch is apparently in a pamphlet that Enormous Gym includes in a top rope "kit."
The clove hitch is fine when it is right in front of you. It isn't as stable as other knots, especially when being loaded and unloaded. Using it on an anchor that is out of sight introduces serious risk. A bowline is every bit as easy to tension, and much more secure.
NAh, a clove hitch is both stronger and more secure than a bowline. ESPECIALLY when being loaded and unloaded. Hence why a bowline must always be used with a stopper knot.
Is that a clove hitch on a screwgate?? Must be a Brit if it is!!

DeleteIn general are you advising against clove hitches on locking biners? Thanks for your work.
