Not enough rope, or sense?

Two 7mm cords (one is around the block in the center), why not just buy enough rope?

Warm weather, dumb anchors.

Tying everything together is better, right? Nylon on nylon, high anchor on the tree, lots going on.

He said "I could just put a clove hitch on this knob."

Lots of knots, but the tree is still only 3" in diameter.

Ignore the black rope. The 3 anchors probably took everything he had in his pack. The runners in the center are looped over a loose block.

So many mysteries.
