A collection of dubious top rope climbing anchors.

Slings and biners of outrageous anchors.
The tree in the air, slung about 6 feet up, oh and by the way, 2 ropes on the same tree doesn't mean 2 anchors. Note the guy being taught to hang over the edge to rig a top rope. Good to know, but people are doing it way too often.
They knew this rock wasn't big enough, so they added the tony tree.
I have been following your blog for sometime, for amusement and for tips on not what to do. Thank you for posting. I am not familiar with the area, but it appears to be a popular place for novice climbers, and also presents a challenge for many anchor builders. I climb established routes in the southeast at various places, some popular, and some less. There are almost always anchor bolts for the many toprope routes. I guess, I am surprised some one here has not raised a little money and started a bolting project. Why is that? Just curious.
Carderock is part of the C&O National Historical Park. Bolts work well in the rock and the climbing community has offered to fund and install them. NPS can't make a decision, we've been through this a couple of times over the years.

DeleteCarrying on the Shakespeare theme.....A good anchor a good anchor , my kingdom for a good anchor!
ReplyDeleteGod knows it is hard to elevate the level of discourse in online comments. We could probably mine the Bard forever for quips about human foibles.
